A walk along the two-and-a-half-mile Freedom Trail is one of the best ways to get acquainted with Boston and visit the city's bounty of historic landmarks.
Climate: Boston has a continental climate with maritime influences to due to its position on the Atlantic Ocean and very changeable weather. Summers are usually sunny, hot and humid, the temperature in July averaging 82°F (28°C). Winters, by contrast, are bitterly cold, windy, wet and snowy, the coldest month is January, with an average high of 35.8°F (2.1°C) and a low of 21.6°F (-5.6°C). Boston averages 42 inches (108 cm) of snowfall annually. The best time to travel to Boston is in the late spring or early autumn, when the weather is warm and pleasant. Autumn is particularly lovely when New England's trees wear their colourful fall foliage.
