Zion is part
of the South-west's "Grand Circle" of national parks, monuments, historical
areas and recreation areas, one of the world's great concentrations of outstanding natural
and cultural features. Zion National Park has dramatic landscape of sculptured canyons and
soaring cliffs. The Zion Canyon Visitor Center is a short distance
from the Park's South Entrance adjacent to Springdale. The
Visitor Center at the Kolob Canyons entrance is accessible from I-15, exit 40. I-15 passes
west of the Park and connects with UT-9 and 17 to the Park. US-89 passes east and connects
with UT-9 to the Park.
When we were at this park, the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive was closed due a
landslip, so we looked at this beautiful park only from Zion-Mt. Carmel highway. This road
give a beautiful view over slickrock country, where the rocks colored in white and pastels
of orange and red have been eroded into hundreds of fantastic shapes. Passed the tunnel
the landscape changed and appear the Zion Canyon with its massive cliffs walls. We did a
stop at the interesting visitor center, but sadly we didn't visit "The Narrows"
and the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive.
