Lapland, the northernmost area of the country, is the most interesting region of Finland, the region is rich in natural landscapes in pure form, there are plains, hills and mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. Then in Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle, is the only "true" House of the more popular inhabitant of Finland: Santa Claus. The Santa Claus Village includes a post office that handles letters from children addressed to Santa Claus. UNESCO has 7 Finnish properties inscribed on the World Heritage List: Bronze Age Burial Site of Sammallahdenmäki (1999), Fortress of Suomenlinna (1991), Old Rauma (1991), Petäjävesi Old Church (1994), Struve Geodetic Arc (2005), Verla Groundwood and Board Mill (1996), High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago (2000). Among the properties submitted on the Tentative List: The Carvings from historic time at the island of Gaddtarmen (Hauensuoli) (1990), The large Stone Age ruin of Kastelli at Pattijoki (1990), The Rock paintings of Astuvansalmi at Ristiina (1990), The Holy place of worship of Ukonsaari by the Sami people at Inari (1990), Paimio Hospital (formerly Paimio Sanatorium) (2004), Saimaa-Pielinen Lake System (2004).
