TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: WHAT TO VISIT IN FINLAND

Along the west coast of Finland lies the picturesque town of Rauma, which is part of the UNESCO World heritage, more north lies the university city of Oulu. Other cities to visit in addition to the capital Helsinki, one of the most modern and culturally advanced cities, is the city of Turku, the oldest of the country and former Finnish capital. Nearby is the seaside town of Naantali, with its World of Muumin - theme park for children. To the east of Helsinki is the city of Hamina, with its circular military mold and Kotka, with its imperial fishing hut. Do not miss a visit to the 6500 islands and reefs of the Åland islands of ancient Swedish culture, here are the oldest Finland's churches, dating back to 12th century and also some Swedish manor houses. If you want to relax and recharge energy Finland is the place for you.

Each region of Finland has its own characteristics, from the Lapland wilderness areas, to the romantic lakes in the East, to the archipelagos of south-western zone and vibrant attractions of the capital, Helsinki.

The Lakes Region, the largest area of lakes in Europe, a blue maze of lakes, islands, rivers and canals, scattered with forests that stretch for hundreds of kilometres in a quiet space and a surprising beauty. This region has allowed Finland to earn a reputation as the land of a thousand lakes, and is also an ideal destination for holidays. 

 

Lapland, the northernmost area of the country, is the most interesting region of Finland, the region is rich in natural landscapes in pure form, there are plains, hills and mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. Then in Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle, is the only "true" House of the more popular inhabitant of Finland: Santa Claus. The Santa Claus Village includes a post office that handles letters from children addressed to Santa Claus.

UNESCO has 7 Finnish properties inscribed on the World Heritage List: Bronze Age Burial Site of Sammallahdenmäki (1999), Fortress of Suomenlinna (1991), Old Rauma (1991), Petäjävesi Old Church (1994), Struve Geodetic Arc (2005), Verla Groundwood and Board Mill (1996), High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago (2000).

Among the properties submitted on the Tentative List: The Carvings from historic time at the island of Gaddtarmen (Hauensuoli) (1990), The large Stone Age ruin of Kastelli at Pattijoki (1990), The Rock paintings of Astuvansalmi at Ristiina (1990), The Holy place of worship of Ukonsaari by the Sami people at Inari (1990), Paimio Hospital (formerly Paimio Sanatorium) (2004), Saimaa-Pielinen Lake System (2004).
